How important are dental check-ups and cleanings? They’re the cornerstone of good dental health! Routine dental care combined with good home oral care can keep your smile going strong for life! At Smile Studios, located in Redmond, Washington, biannual dental check-ups and cleanings play a key role in preventive care. Dr. Tina Subherwal answers your questions about these services here.
During a check-up, Dr. Tina will inspect your teeth, gums, and jaw for signs of abnormalities. Once a year, we’ll take X-rays to examine your bone health and detect hidden issues. Early detection will allow us to intervene quickly to safeguard your smile. For dental cleanings, we’ll use special tools to remove all plaque, tartar, and surface stains from your teeth, above and around the gum line. Then we’ll floss and polish your teeth, leaving them sparkling clean. A fluoride treatment is optional to strengthen your teeth against cavities.
Dr. Tina recommends biannual dental visits for check-ups and cleanings. Some people, however, may need more frequent dental visits due to ongoing dental problems such as decay or gum disease. If you need specific treatments, such as a filling, a root canal, or periodontal care, we’ll schedule those appointments separately.
A routine cleaning isn’t usually painful, though you may experience some discomfort if you have sensitive gums or teeth. We can apply a numbing gel to your gums to help remedy this.
Routine cleanings are a preventive measure against dental issues like cavities and gum disease. Our hygienist will remove plaque and tartar buildup at and above the gum line to prevent infection and decay.
Deep cleaning is a treatment for gum disease. If plaque isn’t regularly removed from your teeth, it can accumulate under the gum line, causing an infection called gum disease. Deep cleaning is needed to stop this infection and reverse its symptoms before permanent damage is caused to your teeth.
